Wadowice is a small town located just 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Krakow. The history of the city dates back to the 13th century but the most important event there took place on 18-th May 1920. This is a date when Karol Wojtyla was born - the same man who later became Holy Father, Saint John Paul the II. Nowadays Wadowice Town is visited by almost 0,5 million tourists every year. The most important place to see there is a house where Karol was born and spend all his childhood and youth. From 9th April, brand new 4 storeys Museum. Next to the JPII Home there is a church where like he said 'everything has begun'. Wadowice is known also from Pope's favorite cake - cream-cake 'kremowka' which You can try there in every cake shop.
Wadowice Tour
Our tour is private and door-to-door so we pick you up at agreed location and time. Saint John Paul Museum is open every day from 8:30am until: - 5:30pm (May - September), - 4:30pm (April and October), 2:30pm (October - March). At the appointed time our English speaking chauffeur will pick you up and drive directly to Wadowice. Journey lasts about an hour. To avoid traffic jams, we recommend to leave in the morning.
There are 2 'must sees' in Wadowice: former Pope's house which is now a big brand new Museum and Church where Pope was baptised. There are regular guided group tours in Museums which lasts about 2 hours. Tickets costs: 30PLN per person (normal) or 22PLN per person (students, children and senior citizens). On Tuesdays, except last Tuesday of the month, all guided tours are free of charge. Please note that taking pictures and filming in Museum is strictly forbidden.
After sightseeing Museum, you will go to see Church which is next to the Musuem. At the end, we recommend you to try Pope's favourite cream-cake available at every candy shop in Wadowice.
On the way back to Krakow there are two another pilgrim destinations related to Saint Pope: Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki. It is possible to visit these worldwide known places too! This option known as 'Catholic Tour' is approximately only 50 PLN per person more then Wadowice Tour itself.
