Wadowice is a small town located just 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Krakow. The history of the city dates back to the 13th century but the most important event there took place on 18-th May 1920. This is a date when Karol Wojtyla was born - the same man who later became Holy Father, John Paul the II. Nowadays Wadowice Town is visited by almost 0,5 million tourists every year. The most important place to see there is a house where Karol was born and spend all his childhood and youth. Next to the JPII Home there is a church where like he said 'everything has begun'. Wadowice is known also from Pope's favorite cake - cream-cake 'kremowka' which You can try there in every cake shop.

The home of John Paul the II is open for visitor every day except Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (4 p.m. in winter). It takes only one hour to get there from the center of Krakow so we can begin even on the afternoon. In Wadowice You can start sightseeing from visit in the church. Then just few steps and You're in former home of Pope. Although it is a musuem there is no any admission fee. In the House You can see incredible photographs gallery which shows Pope's live from very beginning as well as original documents, furnitures and another properties of Pope. What is important there are descripitions and explanations in 6 languages so You don't need a guide to get all necessery informations. Although visit in Pope's home is very interesting it doesn't last very long. Usually one hour is enough too see the church and House. Then You can buy some souvenir and take a rest in one of local coffee shops. We recommend You to try delicious 'kremowka' cake.
